A Bit About Your Counsellor

Hi! I’m Lindsay Prizer, your therapist. I’m a dedicated mental health professional registered and in good standing with the British Columbia College of Social Workers. I have a Master’s degree in Social Work (2010) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a PhD in Public Health (2016) from the University of Georgia. I am passionate about helping individuals explore and learn about their thought patterns while applying evidence based strategies to help them gain more control and confidence in their mental health. I focus on creating a welcoming, safe, compassionate, and judgement-free environment where clients feel supported in their mental health growth and healing.

Therapy doesn’t look any ONE way. Some people seek therapy for emotional concerns or changes - like depression or anxiety. Some people seek therapy to learn skills to change problematic behaviours. Some people worry their thoughts are out of control and can’t get any quiet in their heads. Some people want to talk about struggles with personal relationships and learn how to improve those interactions. Some people want to focus on healing from big-T and little-t traumas that may have happened long ago or very recently. Some people want to learn and change how their past experiences are influencing their current feelings or behaviours. Some people want to learn strategies for navigating life more effectively with ADHD. And some people just want a place to vent or to share their achievements or just to be heard by someone. I’m here for ALL of that.

I apply a holistic integrative therapeutic approach in practice, recognizing that different therapeutic tools may be needed to match a person’s individual needs. We will work together to prioritize your concerns or areas of need on our therapeutic plan to help you meet your goals for counselling. I have specialized training in treating obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety disorders with exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP), and I have contracted with an OCD-specific company for over 5 years now, working with over 200 OCD-specific clients in that time. While OCD can feel so isolating in those thoughts, I don’t believe there’s a thought I haven’t heard - try me! I also have Master’s and Doctorate level training in gerontology and end-of-life care, with previous experience as a social worker in Memory and Movement Disorders clinics, an outpatient palliative care clinic, and in hospice. I am also trained in a variety of other evidence-based modalities to support trauma recovery and other mental health concerns, such as Prolonged Exposure Training, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural therapy, Behavioural Activation, Mindfulness, etc.

My ultimate goal is to support you in feeling confident in better understanding your thoughts, your brain, and yourself and to equip you with tools and strategies that empower you in managing your mental health outside of sessions. If you have any questions or concerns at any point during your counselling journey, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
